Abstract: |
MCM-41 type mesoporous materials with different structures and length scales from nanometer to micrometer have been synthesized. The dimension, shape and porosity of synthesized MCM-41 may change by type of catalyst and surfactant. In this study the anoporous-spherical MCM-41 silica was synthesised by tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as a silica source, sodium hydroxide and a cationic surfactant hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a structure directing agent. The post synthesized MCM-41 was modified with two reagents, Trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS) and 3-Aminopropyltrimetoxysilane (APTMS). The synthesized materials were investigated by various techniques; including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray powder diffractometry (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Thermalgravimetry (TGA) and Barret-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) method. The silylated particles FTIR spectrum showed a new peak, which is attributed to methyl and amine groups. The pore diameter and volume of prepared mesoporous particle were calculated by BJH method, the pore size of the calcined MCM-41 was 3.5 nm. |
