Abstract: |
The performance of styrenic thermoplastic elastomer materials named styrene butadiene styrene block copolymer (SBS) is improved by fundamental studies on SBS nanocomposites. In this work, the characteristic of nanosilica and physical interaction between silica particles and SBS macromolecules are analyzed by scanning electron microscopy energy diffraction x-ray (SEM-EDX) with elements constituent spectrum and mechanical properties analysis. The dispersion and distribution of nanosilica particles in the styrene butadiene styrene matrix and their interfacial adhesion are obviously improved. The tensile strength and hardness of SBS/SiO2 nanocomposites show considerable increases by incorporation of silica content in SBS matrix but it causes decrease in modulus and elongation at break compared to cured SBS / silica-filled nanocomposites. |
