Abstract: |
This research was planned to investigate the effects of nano-chitosan on physical and mechanical properties as well as bio resistance of treated beech and fir woods. Nano-chitosan was prepared by using two different methods. Nano particles were studied under scanning electron microscope (SEM) and their sizes were measured by a potential zeta meter. Between both applied methods for nano material preparation, nano-chitosan synthesized by [1] was selected as the best due to its size and stability. Afterwards, wood samples were treated with nano-chitosan 1% and chitosan. To determine any effects of the nano material on wood properties, physical and mechanical properties as well as resistance of wood against brown- and white-rot fungi were determined in both fir and beech woods.SEM studies showed that nano particles were made with [1] method had smaller sizes and also the solution was more stable than another one. Also wood samples treated with those nano particles enhanced wood properties. Swelling of the fir treated wood was reduced almost 40% after 24 hours of soaking in water. Also the anti-swelling efficiency of both samples was increased due to the treatment. Mechanical properties were not affected by the nano particles, as compared with the chitosan. |
