Abstract: |
Potassium nickel sulfate hexahydrate (KNSH) crystal was grown from aqueous solution at low temperature. KNSH, due to its optical transmission region, can be used as an UV band pass filter. The empirical formula of KNSH is K2Ni(SO4)2.6H2O. X-ray powder measurement of the grown KNSH crystal revealed its monoclinic structure with space group P21/a and lattice parameters of a = 8.9984Å, b = 12.182Å, c = 6.1321Å, α = γ = 90°, β = 105.054°. UV-Vis spectroscopy of KNSH from ultraviolet to near IR showed a transmission as high as the reported value. The TGA/DTA studies on the sample indicated that the dehydration temperature of the grown crystal was higher than that of NSH crystal. |
