Abstract: |
In recent years, flexible, mechanically strengthen and environmentally friendly thermal insulation materials have attracted considerable attention. In this work PET nonwoven/silica aerogel composite with desirable characteristics was prepared via a sol-gel process at ambient pressure. The morphology and pore structure of the composite were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Nitrogen adsorption analysis. The thermal insulation properties and contact angle of the surface of the neat nonwoven and the composite sample were also determined. According to the obtained results, mean pore size, surface area and total pore volume of aerogel are 7 nm, 830 m2/g and 1.44 cm3/g respectively while the aerogel maintained its high porosity in the composite. The composite exhibits stronger hydrophobicity and higher thermal insulation performance compared to the neat nonwoven. |
