Abstract: |
Bioactive glasses were used extensively as orthopedic and dental grafting materials, and as a tissue engineering scaffolds. To overcome of their weak mechanical properties, fabrication of nano composites comprising biodegradable polymers and bioactive glass becomes a suitable option to fulfill the requirements of bioactivity, degradability and mechanical competence. In this study, the nano composite scaffolds was fabricated using gelatin and nano bioglass particles in the ternary SiO2–CaO–P2O5system. For this propose the nano bioactive glass was firstly synthesized using sol. gel method. For better compatibility between the nano bioglass particles and host gelatine, surface modification of nano bioglass glass particles with silane coupling agents was performed. The appropriate surface modification on nano bioglass particles, not only leads to better dispersion and compatibility of them in gelatine matrix, but also results in formation of chemical and physical interactions with gelatine matrix. In vitro evaluations of the nano composite scaffolds were also studied by immersion test in simulated body fluid (SBF). The apatite formation at the surface of the nano composite samples was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)analyses methods. |
