Abstract: |
The present investigation involves the in situ green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and chitosan /polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel by gamma irradiation simultaneously. The synthesized silver nanoparticles embedded in chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), dynamic light scattering (DLS) and UV-visible spectroscopy. The obtained results from DLS confirmed that, the average size of hydrogel containing silver nanoparticles was about 96 nm. FE-SEM and EDS analysis showed the presence of silver nanoparticles in chitosan/PVA hydrogel. The antibacterial efficacy of synthesized hydrogel nanocomposite was evaluated against both gram-negative (E. coli) and gram-positive (S. aureus) bacterium. Results of antibacterial activity of prepared hydrogel nanocopmposite revealed that the hydrogel could be a promising candidate for antibacterial and biomedical applications. |
