Abstract: |
In this work rubber nanocomposites containing styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), ethylene–propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) rubber and organoclay (SBR/EPDM /OC) were prepared by melt mixing process. Concentration ratio of rubber phases (EPDM/SBR) in nanocomposites (50/50) and the amount of organoclay were kept constant. The samples were then vulcanized by means of gamma radiation. The effects of both radiation dose and OC on the mechanical properties of samples were investigated. The structure of organoclay in the nanocomposites was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The mechanical properties of nanocomposites were also investigated using ASTM tensile test method. The obtained results showed an increase in mechanical properties by increasing the radiation dose and clay content. |
