MnFe2O4/bentonite nanocomposite was synthesized by chemical co-precipitation method. The product was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning electron microscope (SEM). XRD results indicated montmorilonite associated with free quartz. The ferrite MnFe2O4 was designated to be Magnetic. VSM analysis were carried out to characterize the magnetic properties of the nano-particles. SEM images of the sorbent showed nanocomposite with a uniform structure in the range of 50-200 nm in diameter. Adsorption characteristics of the synthesized nano-composite were examined by using CoSO4.7H2O solution to evaluate the pollutant adsorption. The results from adsorption experiments revealed that the composite has much higher catalytic activity than the bentonite itself. Results also showed that the best removal efficiency achieved within the first 10 minutes of the adsorption test. The adsorption value of Co2+ was shown to be dependent on the pH. The results suggest that the removal efficiency increases as pH increases in range of 2- 4.5. |
