In this study, nylon 6 nanocomposites were prepared by in-situ polymerization of ɛ-caprolactam with dispersed nanoclays based on two types of nanoclay, organically modified montmorillonite clay dimethyl, 2-ethyl hexyl hydrogenated tallow alkyl ammonium cation (Cloisite30B) and Sodium Montmorillonite (Na+-MMT). The nanoclay was dispersed in molten monomer (ɛ-caprolactam) and polymerization took place. The application of polyamides is limited by low impact performance when notched in room temperature, in temperatures below 0˚C, it has worse condition. One way to solve this problem is to prepare polymer blends where the dispersed phase is an elastomer, Therefore, we made nylon 6/ styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) blends, till increase stiffness and tenacity of nylon 6 and improve flexibility . X-ray diffraction (XRD), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) and Ultra Violet (UV) absorbance techniques were used to characterize the nanocomposites. The morphology of the nanocomposites was shown by XRD, DSC,TEM analysis .Tensile test showed improve impact property of nylon 6, and TEM showed dispersion of organoclay in nylon 6 phase. |
