Abstract: |
Polymeric nanocomposites were prepared using ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer and Expanded Graphite (EG) via novel master batch method. In the first step, composite with 60wt% of EG was prepared using two-roll mill above the melt temperature of EVA. Elongational flow was used to improve the dispersion of EG. Then, masticated composite was melt blended with EVA in lab scale internal mixer. DMTA and electrical conductivity measurements were applied and it was found that dispersion of EG in polymer matrix improved using the master batch method. It was observed that EG acts as a compatibilizer between ethylene and vinyl acetate groups in copolymer. Damping of nanocomposites and Tg difference of these two groups in EVA copolymer reduced. In addition, the effect of Graphite aspect ratio on storage modulus and damping of nanocomposites were investigated. Electrical conductivity measurements showed a reduced percolation threshold applying the master batch filling technique due to better dispersion of EG in polymer matrix. The percolation threshold of EG was found to be around 6vol%. Also nanocomposites with higher Aspect ratio of EG showed lower percolation threshold. |
