In this research, the uniform europium (III)-doped LaF3 nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized via co-precipitation route in which ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) was used as an effective size-controlled capping agent. The structural and morphological properties were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results demonstrated that the well-crystallized nanoparticles with hexagonal structure are spherical in shape. Furthermore, FT-IR spectrum confirmed the existence of the functional groups of organic additive after annealing process. From UV-Vis absorption spectrum, the energy gap between the excited and ground states was calculated about 5.1 eV. Eventually, red photoluminescence was observed for LaF3:5%Eu nanoparticles at room temperature which are appealing to bio-labeling applications. |
